When Erin woke from her post sex nap, her stomach was rumbling. It was then she realized she had no idea where to get food.

She made her way to the kitchen and found a small fruit basket on the counter, but not much else. There were, thankfully, the supplies to make a pot of coffee so that’s what she did.

As she ate an orange and waited for the brew to finish, there was a knock at her door.

For a moment, fear gripped her but then she heard a familiar voice.

“Erin, honey, it’s Dakota. You can open up. Hunter sent me.”

Her shoulders slumped with relief as she made her way to the door and pulled it open.

Dakota stuck her hand out.

“We didn’t exactly get introduced. I’m Dakota Hylander.”

Erin smiled.

“I know who you are. We actually met once at an agriculture fundraiser in D.C.”

Dakota wrinkled her nose. “Sorry. I hate those things and usually try to wipe them from my memory by drinking martinis the whole time I’m there.”

Erin giggled. “They are pretty awful.” She stepped back from the door. “Come in. I was just making coffee.”

“Get dressed and forget the coffee. I’m taking you to breakfast. I know this cabin has no food in it.”

Erin smiled. “I am pretty hungry.”

The fancy coffee maker dinged to indicate it was ready, so she poured a mug.

“I’ll just drink this while I get dressed,” she said as she dumped sugar and milk into it.

Dakota chuckled and perched on the arm of the couch to wait.

“I’ll be five minutes,” Erin promised as she rushed into the bedroom to dress.

“What’s for breakfast?” Erin asked when she came out of the bedroom a few minutes later and deposited her empty coffee mug in the sink.

“Anywhere you want. Greasy diner food, fast food, fancy hotel breakfast?”

Erin laughed. “I’m good with whatever’s closest.”

“Greasy diner it is.”

Soon they were in the car and on their way.

“Just us?” Erin asked as they pulled away from the lodge.

“Yeah, Holly and Elijah had to get back to work. Patrick and Austin don’t like mornings, and Hunter, Lance, Garrett, and Russell are holed up scheming about something.”

“Wasn’t there another one? Jackson or something?”

Dakota nodded. “I assume he’s off snooping on some married woman having an affair, but I don’t ask a lot of questions. And then there’s Matthew but his grandfather who lived in London died so he’s over there at the funeral.”

Erin laughed. “You are an interesting lot, that’s for sure.”

Dakota grinned as their driver turned onto the main road. “We like it that way. I hear you went exploring in the dungeon.”

Erin felt her face turn red. “Something like that.”

“Aww honey. Don’t be shy. Have questions?”

Erin smiled at the southern woman. “So many. But I have no idea where to start or if there’s even a point to asking.”

Dakota cocked her head. “What do you mean? You unsure about Samuel? Cause let me tell you honey, he’s not at all unsure about you.”

Erin frowned. “How do you know that?”

Dakota laughed. “I’ve known Samuel for a while now.
